I got a nice formspring the other day….

Don’t strip credit from the shit you reblog, ok? Tumblr makes it really easy to keep credit on things, I’m sure you can manage it. Just leave those names there.

I have a few things to say about this.

1. this tumblog and the others I have are primarily for me not you or any other of my followers, the stuff I post is there so I can find it again without spending hours trawling the internet trying to remember where I saw something, people following me and rebloging the stuff I post is a by product of me using tumblr in the way I do. If I reblog something of yours I am doing it for me to look at and the ‘credit’ is irrelevant as I dont really care where most of it came from unless I want to see more work by the same artist.

2. Finding something on another website and posting it on the tumblr does not give anyone a reason to claim ‘credit’ for it. same goes for reblogs, I only leave the name of the tumblog that brought said post to my attention. If the person who originaly posted the item to tumblr had any sense they would have put a click through link on the post. I always do that when posting from anywhere other than tumblr and I never remove them either.

3. The only person who does deserve credit for something is the person who created the work, everyone else involved is just showing it to the masses, do you think that record company’s like EMI and SONY deserve credit for a song written and performed by a really talented band? well thats what we are on tumblr, we are just like little publishing companys bringing the stuff we like to the masses.

4. Audio posts of songs do not deserve any credit except to that of the artist performing the song.

5. the internet is full of pirates and if you dont like it get off the internet, every body steals other peoples shit sometime. I mean its not like we all don’t download music, films and tv shows from the internet anyway.

6. I am not braking the law so screw you.

7. when you reblog somthing it say ‘suchabody’ reblogged ‘suchabody’ and when you click it you get to see where I reblogged it from and so tumblr makes it easy to trace the work backwards to it’s place of origin.

8. I also belive that alot of people get arsey over this ‘credit’ removal bollocks because they wont get anyone clicking the link to their tumblog and getting followers therefore not getting more ‘tumblarity’. I dont give a fuck about this little number on the top right of my dash, If you need a number to boost your ego then you need to get off the internet and go get a life!

The Art Gallery of Ontario kindly let me use their parking lot for this project. It’s a fenced-off enclosure that bisects Butterfield Park and Grange Park here in downtown Toronto. The installation became a bit of a marathon as I tied it together over a solid 24 hour period, overnight and through some light rain. In the end, I used more than 21,663 feet of salvaged string - two high-tension lengths for each of the 231 points/nodes crossing the 44-foot distance between the fences, plus the letter outlines. So far, the squirrels haven’t chewed on it for their nests… (via)
